“I work from home and we need to accommodate a study area that will be fully integrated in the overall design concept – on a general note, we will need much more storage space than we currently have throughout the house”.

Our clients asked us to carve a seamless, contemporary living space out of a traditional terraced house in Notting Hill. Our solution was a whole-scale refurbishment that married their modern design ideals with the existing architecture to create an elegant and exciting home/work/entertain environment. The well-balanced use of natural and man-made materials creates a tactile journey through the ground floor¹s harder ‘public’ areas up to the higher private floors where the couple can escape a busy city lifestyle.

“The house is cold and dark, we both like contemporary furniture although we don’t want to own a minimalist house as we live in Notting Hill – we do love white but an all glossy white house would not work with our lifestyle”.

“The kitchen is essential for both of us; I enjoy cooking and my husband enjoys eating, he is French! Because of its location – on the open plan ground floor of the house – the kitchen will be part of the public entertaining space”.

Aesthetically, the interior is very interesting. It combines the natural tones of brown, grey and white in a very stylish way by adding just a little patch of color in key areas. For example, the two colorful fuchsia pillows that are strategically placed between the other ones, or the nice colorful flowers placed on the table. All of these are very subtle and elegant details that really complete the whole picture.

The streamlined sleek elegance of the ground floor continues to underpin the design of the more private upper floors and the transitional space of the staircase that leads to them.  The lounge and study area on the first floor are less minimalist, softer spaces but remain architecturally connected to the more contemporary and ‘public’ ground floor.  The combination of the original architectural elements (cornices and high skirting boards), with the more contemporary finishes of the furniture represents a logical evolution of the statement the clients wished to make. The subtle colour palette is another layer in the creation of a calm and relaxing area for catching up with work or with after party guests.

The blend of the different materials throughout the house contributes greatly to the success of the project. Whether in the entertaining space on the ground floor or in the private areas of the house, the textures and the shades of materials used effect the desired harmony between sleek minimalism and the traditional warmth.

The main area of this contemporary project is the kitchen which was designed for living and entertaining which opens onto the garden via three-meter-wide sliding glass doors. There is a big connection between wood and stone walls to nature.

Our clients asked us to create a seamless, contemporary living space for an elegant lifestyle. They asked for a bold design statement that would immediately welcome their guests.  We achieved this by pushing the ground floor open to its practical limits – the only door other than the entrance is the one to the cloakroom.  They wanted to multitask in this open, ‘public’, space without compromising their entertaining duties.  Thus the kitchen has become an integrated element of the living space; the island, with its bar area, provides a gathering point for both the guests and the host who can continue cooking without leaving the party.  The garden effortlessly becomes part of this borderless ground-floor space through our addition of three-metre wide folding sliding doors.  Materials link the outside with the inside: the stone-clad wall behind the dining table speaks to the more public nature of this entertaining space as well as to the garden beyond.

“We love to entertain and have friends over for dinner – it is essential that the design designates the ground floor as the daytime living space and the upper floors as be a more intimate living space”.

This successful Franco-English couple spent six months living in their newly acquired Notting hill home mulling over its imminent refurbishment.  Their vision was clear: the chic, light-filled sharpness of the boutique hotels that they regularly escaped to.  The reality was a dark, dated Victorian terraced house.  Our solution was a whole-scale refurbishment that married their design ideals with the existing architecture to create a harmonious, elegant and exciting home/work/entertain environment.

Located in Notting Hill, London, this contemporary house, designed by Staffan Tollgard Design Group was transformed it into a multi-functional urban interior design. All the materials used are handmade and natural materials come together in a mix of touchable textures and rich patterns which leads you through the home’s social spaces.

Nowhere is the clients’ vision of a boutique, elegant hotel more important than in the most private spaces of their home: the bedrooms and bathrooms.  Another floor away from the public spaces and the space is further softened: to the muted colour palette we added natural wallpaper to soften the walls and thick carpet to please bare feet.  Furniture with clean lines is cushioned with luxurious but not ostentatious fabrics.  The master bathroom was a personal statement for the clients who wanted a walk-in shower as the centrepiece of a resolutely clean and sleek bathroom.  Materials and fittings were chosen with an eye for minimalist qualities that didn’t compromise the room’s practicality.  The combination of gloss and matt surfaces together with the wooden wall hung elements makes for a sleek and inviting space.
