Highlights The first and foremost college  The department of architecture at Hanyang University has the longest history in Korea, and has the most graduates in the departments of architecture in Korea.

The department of architecture at Hanyang University was one of the representative majors with the major of mining and civil engineering when Donga Institute of Technology was established in 1939. Hanyang University has played a pivotal role in the development of Korean architecture during the Korean War and the period of rapid growth in the 1970s.

Some 18,000 graduates of Hanyang’s architecture major have continued to show their brilliant performance to today, and Hanyang Architecture is strengthening its position as a leader not only in architectural design but also in various related fields such as construction, structure and facility design.

Five-year Degree Program Specialized in Architectural Education  The Bachelor of Architecture degree program at Hanyang University is a five-year curriculum that is accredited by KAAB and accredited by the Canberra Acord certification bodies and UVCAE of the UNESCO-UIA .

Highlights Hands-on workers’ Critic & Advice Final exams of most studio classes are conducted by hands-on workers. Professors and those hands-on workers in the industry will assess students together and determine a final score.

Most of the professionals are alumni, so they evaluate and criticize with affection. This is a great opportunity for students to hear realistic advice on the current industry. They approach it from a variety of perspectives, helping students see what they lack and what they did well in an objective way.

After the evaluation is over, there is a chance for students to talk with the alumni. Students can also listen to the stories of alumni in addition to networking opportunities. Convenient and comfortable laboratory environment Planning and design classes are always demanding.

In order to complete assignments or projects every week, it is important to have a comfortable laboratory environment because students often have to stay up and work till late. Not only is the newly remodeled classrooms well-maintained, but also all of the equipment in the laboratories is new and convenient for students to use.

In addition, classrooms, laboratories and workshops are available in one building. While students from other departments have to carry heavy models or props from building to building inconveniently, students in the department of interior design do not have to worry about this problem.

Introduction All people live their entire life in ‘space’. Majoring in architecture will cultivate students to be architects who design all kinds of spaces necessary for people’s lives. People not only live in the space designed by architects, but their lives are influenced by the space designed by the architect.

It can be said that architects are not simply designing buildings, but designing lives to be lived within the buildings.Every kind of architecture, whether created for an individual or built for public purposes, becomes a component of a city.

Lasting throughout generations, a piece of architecture embeds memories and collective meanings shared by communities, reflecting the technology, culture, art and even becoming a symbol of its times. The goal of the department of architecture at Hanyang University is to cultivate ‘creative architectural leaders’ who will be responsible for the future of such architecture.

4 2 ARE4100 Theory of Architectural Space Extended Major 3-3-0 17th century noticed that the word `architecture` confined only to the business related with building. The term `architect`, however, was used to describe a person who was in charge of planning and conducting large projects physical or non-physical, which still can be found in its usage.

Architectural history can be defined as a struggle for architects to secure their noble position in society. Architects, who had been blamed for dealing with physical material, came to find the most abstract material, space.

Locating space as the most important factor defining architecture, architects began to assume their position as social leaders other than professional employee as they once were before 19th century. This class try to encourage the students to practice their role as an architects or a social leaders.

Introduction The department of interior design is a discipline which plans and designs space surrounding humans. Among the three basic needs of human lives–food, clothing, and shelter, this department deals with “shelter.

” In the 21st century, housing, commerce, and technology are constantly changing, and the demand for a new living environment is also diversifying. The ultimate goal of the Department of Interior Design is to provide space for individuals as the living environment is diversified.

Students will learn how to design a comfortable, efficient, and aesthetic space and will study how to organize it in order to focus on environment where  we live. Ultimately, this department aims to improve quality of life through space.

When designing space, the ‘human’ is always considered first. In addition to the purpose and function of internal facilities, customer needs, convenience, and preferences are also important factors to be considered.

When designing space, people use walls, stairs, and furnitures, which are components of space to efficiently guide movements for people’s convenience. Then, they go into detailed work such as lights or finishing materials.

It creates sensibility which is felt in space through lights and colors, lighting and design elements of furniture itself. This work is done in consultation with clients and includes consideration of people who use the space.
