Joanna Gaines Living Rooms Joanna Gaines Living Rooms

Polished Country Living Room Featuring Natural Wood Coffee Table, Leather Armchair and Textured Stone Fireplace Surround

This newly renovated living room features a wall of slider windows offering an expansive view of the backyard.

As seen on Fixer Upper, Chip and Joanna replaced a wall with a support header to create this open floor plan that integrates living and dining areas.

The redesigned living room has a casual and relaxed vibe with oversized leather chairs and sofa and custom built-ins to accommodate a sizable TV and room for some of Kelvin Junior’s football trophies.

A modern patterned wallpaper print was installed to draw attention to the fireplace, as seen on HGTV Fixer Upper. The fireplace and mantel were entirely reworked and surrounded with the bold, contrasty wallpaper to create an accent wall that ties in visually with the trim, door and furnishings.

Cozy neutral furniture with a tufted finish is brightened with yellow throw pillows.

The dated brick fireplace was painted in a dark blue-gray that ties in visually with the kitchen island.

The home’s interior has an industrial farm feel with floating metal shelves, exposed wood beams, dark stained wood floors, a high-contrast palette and — of course — lots and lots of shiplap. This is, after all, Fixer Upper.

To bring a little visual diversity to the floors I typically add in a rug. In this home, a rug wouldn’t be practical because it makes getting around in a wheelchair a little tougher. Instead I opted to lay the flooring in this room in a rug pattern which still accomplished the design goal I was going for, but with so much more practicality for this family.

The living room was updated with fresh wall paint in sage green and new hardwood flooring. The ceiling-height corner window grouping, which had given the home a dated look, now becomes a key feature with new cedar wrap that gives it a more natural and refined look.

The living room has been repainted a bright, modern blue with white trim. The original wood floors have been refinished, and a portion of shiplap wood siding has been uncovered from beneath the sheet rock and painted white, to elegantly extend the mantel of the fireplace.

The original archway doors, one of the home’s defining features, were retained and, with new gray trim, become a focal feature in the overall design.

The painted fireplace and updated mantel create a clean bright focal point for the newly opened up living room.

Fixer Upper hosts Chip and Joanna Gaines transformed the living room in the Gulley home. One large window was replaced with a set of French doors. The multiple support beams were removed and replaced with one large wooden beam between the living room and kitchen.

The Batson’s new living room has been completely transformed. By removing a wall, what was once a small room feels much larger, offering a comfortable flow between the living room and the dining room. In the process of removing the wall, Chip Gains found the original fireplace underneath, and decided to keep it as a unique design element.

The original shiplap was revealed and kept as wainscoting around the house, and natural wood awnings were installed around the windows. A large, eclectic light fixture illuminates the room, as seen on HGTV’s Fixer Upper.

For a timeless mantel setup, we framed a page of sheet music and flanked it with some simple greenery and candlesticks. The marble fireplace surround gives the room a modern detail and a little extra texture.

Home’s Original Built-In Shelves are Updated to Fit New Design

Rather than removing the wall that separated the living area and the kitchen and completely opening up the floorplan, we opted to move the original cased opening and make it larger.

Rustic wall art add charm to the seating area in the barn home’s eat in kitchen space, as seen on HGTV’s Fixer Upper.

The worn, brown wall-to-wall carpeting has been replaced with wood floors and white area rug, and the walls are painted in cool blue-gray in the new Silva home.

A white couch cover and neutral decorative accents add more of the French flair that makes this living room cozy and stylish. The existing large window and doors let in plenty of natural light and the gray walls and white trim add to the spacious feel of the room.

Wrought iron railing adds a beautiful material contrast and ties in the coffee table frame. Wood ceiling beams echo the floating mantel and piano on display.

The built-in shelves were removed to make room for new windows, bringing more natural light into the space. The fireplace gets a facelift with marble hearth and surround, contrasting smartly with the new hardwood floors in dark stain.

To define the new dining room (seen here at left) and a home office (at right), only portions of walls were removed, and slider doors were added to partition off the spaces from the main living room.

To open up the living room space, we took out the existing traditional staircase and built a floating staircase. This is one of my favorite features in the home, because not only did we save square footage, but we created a really interesting design element in the room. I love the iron details paired with the natural wood steps.

To create the open concept home the homeowners hoped for, Chip and Joanna, of HGTV’s Fixer Upper, removed several walls to open the space up, creating a clear line of sight from the kitchen to the dining room.

To connect the spaces, Joanna chose gray trim and molding to run throughout, creating an industrial feel for the spaces.

Rounding off edges and simplifying the fireplace helped redefine the feel of this space.

The Batson’s new living room has been completely transformed. The original shiplap was revealed and kept as wainscoting around the house, and the original bookshelf kept, and backed with natural wood. Wooden box awnings were installed around the windows and a large, eclectic light fixture illuminates the sitting area, as seen on HGTV’s Fixer Upper.

This living space features subtle coastal nuances that complement the theme throughout the home. Recessed lights, a white mantel and grey bricks help to make the rooms seem bigger and more inviting, as seen on Fixer Upper.

As seen on HGTV’s Fixer Upper, Chip and Joanna wanted to make this family’s living room brighter and more open, so they knocked out the walls that had once separated the living room from the foyer, creating an open concept floor plan.

Then, Joanna added durable leather furniture to keep up with the family, a rustic buffet with a gallery wall to welcome guests into the home, patterned rug and pillows to make the space fun and bold pops of color to keep the space bright.

The living room renovation included sanding and re-staining the floors in a darker shade and a complete reworking of the bookshelves on either side of the fireplace to add character. Other enhancements include shiplap paneling, fresh paint and a rustic chandelier.

Faux support beams make the ceiling feel lower, and the room feel cozier in this living space. Bright blue-gray walls and new wood floors give a clean modern look. A chandelier with rustic accents adds character to the space, as seen on HGTV’s Fixer Upper.

On HGTV’s Fixer Upper, the living room design is simple and uncluttered to make the most efficient use of the small area. Large windows in unpainted wood finish help make the space feel more open and provide dramatic views.

The living room is furnished with a charcoal gray area rug, contemporary sofa and leather chairs, and a foyer bench just inside the front door. The natural wood finish of the new doors provides a warming counterbalance to the cool gray walls and white trim.

The focal point of this living room is the elegant, vintage Sepia photograph hanging on the wall in the space. It contrasts with the rawhide chairs and the modern coffee table and floor lamp to help give this modern space some warm, rustic accents.

A gas insert was added as part of the upgrade to the antique fireplace and mantel. The existing built-in shelving was removed and replaced by a pair of arched shelf units, as seen on HGTV’s Fixer Upper.

Chip found these diamond leaded glass panels just laying in the house and had the idea to install them in the sidelights and in the window that looks into the home office. This ended up being one of my favorite details in the house, because I felt like it really pulled in the classic and traditional style of the home. Plus, the fact that they were original to the home made them a seamless addition.

Focal points in the renovated space become the double-sided fireplace with stucco surround and exposed wood beams and arched doorways. “You’ve got the nice wide openings,” says Joanna, “but you also have that quaint, cozy feel.”

The Baker’s living room no longer has a fireplace and now has a small coat closet, as seen on HGTV’s Fixer Upper.

A ladder and rustic bookshelf are both new additions in the newly renovated McKenzie home, as seen on HGTV’s Fixer Upper.

As seen on HGTV’s Fixer Upper, Chip and Jo turned the home’s living room into a bright, clean space with refinished wood floors and light gray paint with white trim. Cozy white furniture surrounds an old wooden decorative mantle.

The fireplace in this home has a really interesting location. It’s not centered on the wall, and it’s right next to the backdoor. Moving a fireplace can be pricey, so we had to work with what we had to stay in budget. To complete this look, we installed a detailed accent wall to finish things off. Previously the door to the garage was here and it drew attention to the fact the fireplace was off-center, so we relocated it.

Chip and Joanna, from HGTV’s Fixer Upper, have completed renovated this living room, which was once a closed in, disconnected space. Chip moved the wall that contained the fireplace to open up the space and had a new mantle constructed on the outside wall.

Joanna brought in rustic touches to create a comfortable, yet sophisticated space for the family to enjoy. The entire space is lit and tied together by a new chandelier that adds an elegant touch to this rustic chic living space.

The living room of the newly renovated Childers home has been completely transformed. The original brick over the fireplace was revealed, original wood floors restored and shiplap walls are brought to life, as seen on HGTV’s Fixer Upper.

The formerly closed-off kitchen now transitions into an adjacent dining area and opens onto the living room via a pass-through window with breakfast bar.

Living Room With Restored Fireplace and Built-In Bookshelves

The pew, the mantel, the vent hood, the antique doors, and the cellos all have warm wood tones which brings both spaces together nicely.

Fixer Upper hosts Joanna and Chip Gaines transformed this living room by opening up the space, creating a better flow into the dining room. By moving the air conditioner to the attic they were able to open up the hallway behind the wall and move the door from the dining area to the living room.

The original hardwood floors were kept and refinished, and a window in the dining room was replaced with French doors.

The living room makeover includes a more modern slate tile for the fireplace and a cedar-beam mantle with TV mounted above. A comfy overstuffed sectional in pale blue and woven jute rug help bring beachy accents to the casually modern space.

As seen on HGTV’s Fixer Upper, this living room gets plenty of natural light, and, with the wall between the living room and stair removed, this space now feels far more bright and open.

Floor-to-ceiling picture windows take full advantage of the views outside the cabin. “I think with such a tiny space, this is so dramatic,” said Joanna. “It’s gonna bring in a lot of natural light, so it’s gonna really make it feel twice as big.”

Re-pitching the roof line created the opportunity to create a much more dramatic space with vaulted ceilings, exposed beams and lots more natural light. The living space also features new hardwood floors and a oversized chandelier.

The open concept space allows a sneak peek at the kitchen and sunroom.

The fireplace gets an update with marble surround and wood mantel. The room is decorated in a casual, contemporary style in neutral tones and stylized features — like a trio of antique cellos that serve as a wall hanging.

A natural wood coffee table compliments the country style of the room and fits beautifully with the exposed beams, stained mantel and hardwood floor. A large, rich brown leather armchair is a nice counter to the light and sophisticated sofa.

Contemporary Neutral Living Room with Gray Built-in Bookshelves

Adding natural wood beams, in a grid pattern, was a bold choice for the small space of the living room, but Fixer Upper host Joanna Gaines feels it definitively adds character to the space and is a visual tie-in with the wood mantel and open wood shelving.

The living room gets a fresh, clean look and added texture with white shiplap above the mantel, a white and gray color palette, redesigned fireplace and contemporary furnishings.

The soft blue walls of this French Country living room display soft furnishings mixed with rustic accents for an off-beat but beautiful style. The room feels cozy and inviting, with the reclaimed wood coffee table and wreath wall hanging adding a sense of naturalness and nostalgia to the more formal furnishings.

The former eyesore that was the fireplace is skinned with stucco and painted white, simplifying the lines and overall look. A simple wood mantel was installed that ties in with new reclaimed-wood ceiling beams and a new wood floor.

Fixer Upper host Joanna Gaines ultimately opted to keep the ceiling beams which, with the new bright white interior, tie in nicely with the newly added trim. The fresh motif and added light make the room feel much larger.

Throughout the kitchen and living room, exposed beams and molding, which had been dark stained wood, were painted white to help give the overall space a lighter and more open feel. New recessed lighting and upgraded French doors bring tons of light into the space.

Antique wood beams and natural wood accents help provide a rustic look and tie in with the dark stained wood floors and furnishings.

As seen on HGTV’s Fixer Upper, a unique feature of the home that Joanna loved was the built-in cabinets on either side of the fireplace that are original to the home. She wanted to incorporate them into her updated design, so she modernized them by giving them a new coat of paint and installing new, modern lamps to accent each one.

The original built-in bookcases flanking the fireplace were retained, echoing the arched detail found in the doors and entryways. The bookcases and trim are painted in ash gray, providing soft contrast with the newly painted white walls.

The musical theme in this house is carried throughout little details and larger statement pieces. These gutted antique cellos and the antique “Pianos” sign brought personality to the room. I found both of these elements at Round Top Antiques Fair.

Eliminating the attic, raising the ceiling to the roof height and adding dark-stained beams creates a full and dramatic vaulted effect in this newly renovated living room.

Brown leather sofas add a darker color element to the soft green walls and natural wood details used in this living room design. A stacked stone fireplace surround incorporates texture while distressed wall art compliments the country style.

New wood flooring replaced the blue, outdated wall to wall carpeting in the Gaspar living room. The brick fireplace was painted bright white, a new mantle was installed, and the fireplace doors were removed for a more modern look.

The owners of this home dreamed of having an open concept space, but they didn’t know how to make their dreams a reality. Enter Fixer Upper’s Chip and Joanna Gaines. The Gainses removed the walls that used to separate the common spaces of the home, opening up the heart of house.

Then, they added cool features to make each space unique-a custom table for the dining room, a new fire place for the living room, double islands for the kitchen-creating the home of this family’s dreams.

Joanna Gaines’s design vision was to bring back some of the home’s original character while brightening and opening up spaces, and making it better suited for a family of five.

An obtrusive utility closet, just inside the front entrance, was removed to facilitate the creation of a welcoming foyer that flows naturally into the main living area. A soft, gray tufted sofa, high-backed wooden bench, chandelier and exposed beam vaulted ceilings all add to the inviting vibe of the space.

As seen on HGTV’s hit show, Fixer Upper, the focal point in the living room is the custom made fireplace. The wood and stone structure brings Joanna’s rustic design into the living room, while also reflecting the warmth of the natural light that spills in through the windows from outside.

A large map of the world is appropriate wall art for a family who loves travel. Track lighting above the map draws the eye to that section of the room. Sliding barn doors match the wood flooring and coffee table and allow for the option of privacy or open connection to the adjoining room.

A cushy leather armchair is an inviting and fitting design choice.
