The Jan Showers goal is to achieve this shared interior design vision and complete each design project to a level the client never dreamed possible.
Jan has done two houses for me and my husband from start to finish, so I have spent a lot of very fun time with her. The thing that is so great about Jan is that when you are her client, she invests much of her time in just getting to know you…she becomes your friend and has the gift of understanding you and your spouse…your likes and dislikes right off the bat. Consequently, at the end of the day, your home is not only impeccably decorated with timeless design, it is a reflection of both of you and your personalities. It is definitely your home!
Jan has been a real inspiration and a great guide through so many different projects over the last fifteen years. She always listened to what we hoped to achieve and then made our dreams and hopes for our home even better than we could have imagined. Every suggestion she makes brings more style and glamour a room. Before I was married she helped me create a feminine home that was totally me. When we got married and moved to a new home, she used what we already had, added in some additional treasures and mixed them together in a different way that represented us as a couple. When we had children and moved again, she suggested additions to us that were family friendly without losing the glamorous touches that we love – and that she is so famous for!
Carefully consider your use of bold patterns. I love some bold pattern in a room, but I can quite quickly become tired of too much pattern. Stripes or an all-over pattern in one color (such as a toile) are timeless and less likely to end up looking dated.
Every chair deserves a table! Make sure you include a table next to your sofa and chairs to hold a glass, coffee cup, or book. There is nothing worse to me than seeing a chair that is nowhere near a table.
Don’t be afraid to match walls and drapery. This action will give the room a warmer feeling of being enveloped in color.
In an initial interior design consultation the Jan Showers team establishes a clear vision for your interior project. The design process begins with presentation of floor plans, samples and other specifications.
Execution of our shared design vision then begins. The interiors of Jan Showers and Associates are chic and timeless. They exude glamour and grace with an approachable and at ease feeling, much like Jan herself. She is an absolute gem.
Whether your design style is traditional or modern, the following tips from Jan Showers will help you create inviting spaces that fuse elegance with comfort – and suit the way you live.
Use bed hangings to create a room-within-a-room—in your bedroom. Choose different fabrics for each element of the bed. Construct the outer draper from one fabric and the lining from another. The headboard and dust skirt offer a third option. I like each component to be tailored for serenity’s sake. There is enough going on in the room already because of the window treatments and other furniture.

Mix quality pieces with less expensive finds. When it comes to collecting, not every piece has to be precious. It’s much more important to find things you truly love. That is the point of collecting! On my desk at home, I have a collection of Eiffel Towers, some expensive and some from souvenir shops. I love them all because they remind me of Paris.

Don’t overlook the potential of secondary seating areas. They add such a gracious and elegant element to any room. You may need to think about smaller-scale furniture such as banquettes (rather than sofas) for these spaces, depending on the size and shape of the room.
Create wonderful tableaux with beautiful ceramics and pieces of glass. I like to use different shapes and heights of glass to add color and sparkle to a room. Mixing in ceramics that feature the same color palette as the glass will add another texture — don’t be afraid to mix the two.
Keep drapery simple, but use wonderful fabrics that look and feel luxurious. Make sure your drapes are made from enough fabric to cover the windows when closed. I never use swags or heavy cornices unless the ceilings are exceptionally tall and the style of the house calls for them.
INTERIOR DESIGN PROCESS & SERVICES One should look and feel great in their rooms.
The book Glamorous Rooms introduced me to the elegant and sophisticated design world of Jan Showers. From that moment, I had no doubt that Jan could create the perfect environment in our new home that would reflect our eclectic lifestyle. Working with Jan was truly a pleasure. We were constantly energized and inspired by her vision, enthusiasm, creativity and talent. Although Jan is meticulous, she instantly puts you at ease due to her incredible warmth and kindness. We are thrilled with our stunning Jan Showers interior and although Jan’s signature is apparent throughout, we are always amazed and delighted when friends tell us it reflects our character entirely. Thank you Jan for our amazing home. We really love it and we think of you every day.
Always make a statement with your entry hall. It sets the tone for the entire house! It’s the first thing your guests see upon arrival and what they see should give them an idea of what to expect. Walls and ceiling should be painted the same color if possible, or use a wonderful wall covering. I love to place both art and mirrors in entry halls if the space allows.

Eye-level lighting is probably the most important element in the design of any room! Keep in mind—overhead lighting is used to age actors and actresses. Recessed lighting should be used for lighting art and filling in spaces that lamps, sconces, and chandeliers can’t reach.
