15 | Though fundamentally organic, the interiors offer a dramatic wooden contrast to the green of their surroundings that can be appreciated from almost any set of indoor co-ordinates. Thatching (usually made up of coconut or sugar palm leaves) and exposed beams are softened by a liberal use of white in both bedding and soft furnishings, and guests are romanced by the addition of mosquito netting which hangs in tandem with neutral window treatments in each of the suites.

loved this place. butler service not as professional as expected but acceptable.was disappointed to find that the garden view room that I had reserved for was unavailable at the last minute and was given instead another room.More

Friends had recommended Shambhala Estate and we decided to try it. It is truly a magical and serene experience to stay here unique compared to other five-star resorts in or near Ubud. The blend of luxury and nature is seamless.Special thanks to our gracious Angel and Butler Ayu. She & her team provided us with above and beyond service! As a vegetarian I was hoping to have the kitchen create some spicy Balinese dishes for me. Executive Chef Dewa came to my villa to discuss the details of my culinary wishes. He and his sous-chef Sargi created the most delicious spicy veggie delights for me… I was in heaven!! Everything was so fresh.Big thanks to all the staff who helped make our stay so special: Dedi, Sutini, Sudiasa, Purnama, Gustu, Wartini, Kama, Mika, and our driver Gosing! We loved hiking down to the natural lagoon pools and were astonished to be mostly alone there every day. Truly magical. We loved our Villa… a perfect blend of indoor and outdoor living space suspended over the beautiful lush green jungle and creek. We enjoyed fantastic therapeutic massage (Thai + Deep tissue trigger point) in the outdoor pavilions in the jungle. I highly recommend getting your massages there!Thank you Shambhala Estate Team for your gracious hospitality and service with excellence!!!!

One of the best resorts we’ve ever stayed at. From the raw/ paleo-friendly/ gluten-free and refined sugar-free menus to the sensational views of the river and trees and the authentic furnishings, settings and buildings this resort is incomparable to anywhere else we’ve ever stayed. We exercised daily, we ate well and felt so relaxed, we left feeling super healthy, rested and happy. This isn’t just a hotel it’s an experience!

Dear BambinaRosa,Warmest greetings from COMO Shambhala Estate!First of all, thank you for taking the time to share your experience with the TripAdvisor Readers. One thing truly stand out from your review is the number of our team member being mentioned – from Housekeeping to Restaurant Team to Spa Team to Personal Assistant to our driver. Nothing makes out prouder to know that our team – together – has delivered such a memorable experience for you.We are happy to read on that you have immensely enjoyed many of our service points and particularly are glad that you made a special mention of our tailor-made cuisine. Chef Dewa and Sargi certainly can create a balance and full of nutrition cuisine with sophisticated tastes of Indonesia.Should you find your way back to us this December 2016, don’t forget to experience our Craniosacral Therapy by our visiting consultant Astrid Diercks. It promotes deep relaxation, mental and physical lightness to better sleep and improved digestion. Includes optional scalp or foot massage. Till then, our best wishes for you.Kind regards,Santiago

It is not unusual to hear the phrase, “I need a holiday to recover from my holiday!” There are obviously many alternatives to a whirlwind tour that spans continents and takes in as many sights as possible, but the Como Shambhala Estate in Bali offers more than superficial rest and relaxation: it offers a very real opportunity to change a life. Assisted by a Yogi, Nutritionist and Ayurvedic Doctor, guests are invited to learn what it means to truly unwind and reconnect with their bodies through the use of a state-of-the-art gym and exploration of their stunning surroundings by means of various engaging outdoor activities.

Dear maitrifischer,Warmest greetings from Begawan Village!First of all, thank you so much for your kind review. “amazing”, “insanely good” and “best massages” sounds so good from our end. Coming from Senior Contributor such as yourself, makes them so much sweeter. We are particularly glad that you made a special mention of the Estate location. The Estate is located few miles from the quiet edge of Ubud, a 15-20 minute drive into the centre of town. Our lush and pristine location next to Ayung River allows us to create a haven, a sanctuary some might have said, where our guest can enjoy their new experience and draw strength from the environment, the care offered to them, and even themselves. We do our best to create seamless services from the Personal Assistants that you met, specially curated activities, beautifully prepared meals to care taken with our unique gardens. Please do let us know when your plans bring you back to Bali. We would very much like the opportunity to welcome you back to COMO Shambhala Estate.Till then, our best wishes for you.Kind regards,Santiago

Room Tip: If you like to walk Wanakasa is the best residence to stay in. I liked my terrace suite Wk2 very much.

8 | Wherever possible, the estate remains an example of traditional Indonesian architecture with its predominantly hardwood construction, breeze-capturing elevation, thatched roofing and open plan pavilion style interiors- often ornately carved in the famed Balinese fashion.

As is also the Indonesian way, the estate is not one large construction but a series of buildings linked by tree-lined walkways and meandering stone steps, which in turn, grow out of and descend into the lush tropical landscape.

Dear Ibizaworld,Warmest greetings from COMO Shambhala Estate!Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with TripAdvisor reader. It is always a pleasure to read a heartwarming review from a repeater as yourself. Your compliment on our location is much appreciated. The Estate is a “Jungle Paradise” with a touch of unassuming luxury. Coincidently the mentioned Wanakasa Residence, the word Wanakasa means ‘Forest in the Mist’ in Sanskrit – I always like to think of the Suites there as luxurious tree houses perched above the Ayung River gorge. We are sorry to hear that you felt our activity could be more interactive and engaging with more coverage on what unique to Bali. I will make sure to our team is aware of your comments and takes ownership in improving our service. Enticing you for future visit, in early 2017 we will have a visit from Wu De – author, teacher, Zen Monk and Tea Master who has been a practitioner of Cha Dao (the Way of Tea) for over 20 years. From the minute you drive in, there is a peace and tranquility at Como. The grounds, the people, the food- all above and beyond. I’ve never tasted better raw food, or even healthy food, in my life. Even after just 2 days, I felt revived and refreshed. Words cannot describe the beauty and magic especially the walk down to the sacred pools. Honestly I cannot wait to go back and spend more time. I give Como the highest of reccomendation.

If you wish to be swept off your feet into a paradise unlike any other, then the COMO Shambhala Estate is the place for you. Staying on the “Island of the Gods” this retreat feels a bit more ‘blessed’. From the spring pools, stunning landscape to award winning cuisine and spa, there is certainly no shortage of options for a romantic or relaxing escape from your norm. We stayed for three nights last week and were even upgraded to the COMO Shambhala Suite in the ‘fire’ themed room complex. We were blown away by their service, attention to detail and willingness to exceed your needs and highest expectations. It’s tough to visit a place like this and not have the most discerningly high expectations, but Paul, Tara and their entire team laugh at the bar you’ve set in topping every last wish and desire. Our personal assistant Diana made this visit truly one to remember, but each and every member of staff needs a sincere congratulations and thanks for all they did throughout our experience.Must do: picnic lunch by the spring pool, morning program estate walk, and most importantly a COMO Shambhala Massage (or two) :)Thanks to the entire Estate team!

Came to Shambala with high expectations and all were met and exceeded. The staff are attentive and genuinely care. The programmes are comprehensive and top quality. The pool villa was lovely, private and had all the amenities you’d expect. The food was delicious and the facilities around are beautiful- you’ve got to see the river pools! If you want a disconnect from reality with healthy food, spectacular surroundings and lovely staff, don’t go past this.More

Dear Sam E,Warmest Greetings from COMO Shambhala Estate!First of all, thank you so much for taking the time to write such a positive review in the Trip Advisor. We much enjoyed your gracious comments and compliments on the Estate. We are very fortunate to be located in an environment that is still pristine – amongst the jungle of the Begawan Village and right by the Ayung River. It allows us to help the guest discovering the healing and relaxing power of the nature. We always encourage our guest to walk around our 23-acre site. The path (and the stairs), some will consider it as challenging and a good work-out, will reveal the most captivating view and hidden place to relax. It’s wonderful to read you also enjoyed the treatments at COMO Shambhala. We are also very pleased to know that you found your personal assistant – Diana, to be instrumental in creating a memorable visit. I shall not miss forwarding your kind compliments to her.It may be goodbye for now, but all of us at the Estate look forward to welcoming you back home for another truly memorable stay in the future.Kind regards,Paul

Dear Albert E,Warmest greetings from COMO Shambhala Estate!First of all, thank you so much for your kind review, it is much appreciated. It is such a pleasure to know that you are very happy with our wellness programme – Be Active. Looking into the review, it seems that our team has managed to facilitate you to be physically active in ways that is suitable for your current condition while incorporating indoor and outdoor activities. Should you wish, for your next visit you could look into our other wellness programme such as Oriental Medicine by our expert consultant David Melladew. The Estate’s look is about being natural and lush that reflected to our “manicured” jungle look. A look that many appreciate considering, as you have eloquently written, the “be prepared for the difference in altitude between the rooms and the reception area, lots of steps to walk.” The number of steps/stairs or distance the guests need to “go through” to go around the Estate certainly has created a mixed feeling between them. We pride ourselves as a resort who strives to put our guest’s happines and wellbeing first. From taking the appropiate care in controlling the insect to finding the “right fit” room for our guest. Upon reservation stage, we try to inquire guest’s preferences e.g. apprehension of steps during the reservation process. With more information, we are confident that we can find the most suitable room for them.We do hope that your stay with us is the beginning (or part) of life-long journey fulfilling your dream and we will have the chance to welcome you back again – till then, I leave you with best wishes of good health and happiness. Kind regards,Paul

We stayed at COMO Shambhala Estate for one night for our wedding anniversary. We booked a Terrace Suite and were upgraded to a private Retreat Pool Villa which was just amazing. The villa had an amazing view, absolute privacy and the staff took amazing care of us. Our PA was always there to look after our needs and was an absolute pleasure. The Estate overlooks the Ayung river valley and you can do an amazing walk around the property. It’s very big and the design and architecture seamlessly integrates with the nature around it. Swimming in the natural spring pools was so awesome and it felt like we had so much space to ourselves to really enjoy the nature and scenery of the property. The food was amazing. My wife likes healthy vegetarian food and I am the opposite. We were both delighted that their menu had options to satisfy both of us and the kitchen even prepared food off menu when we wanted something else. Do not miss Brunch – it insanely good. Do not miss the spa either. Best massages on the island and I’ve been in Bali since 1989.

Dear Sheardypants,Greetings from the “Honeymoon Paradise” in Banjar Begawan!First of all, thank you so much for taking the time to write a balanced point of review in Trip Advisor. The team is grateful for your generous compliments on their initiative service and personal touches. Your compliments on the surrounding is also much appreciated. Our glow and Kudus restaurant menu take inspiration from the ‘living foods’ tradition. Famously know as COMO Shambhala Cuisine, the dishes involve minimal interference with the raw ingredients. This maintains the nutritional integrity of those foods’ essential enzymes, vitamins and minerals and allows our guests to benefit from their ‘life force’, thus increasing energy and wellbeing. Organic and locally sourced whenever possible, our cuisine arrives at the table from the field with minimum delay. We serve meat, fish and vegetables and flavours ranging from Indonesian to Italian to Indian—dishes that always work with your well-balanced nutrition plan. Thus, we agree with your review on healthy food during the stay with COMO Shambhala Estate. We do hope that your 5-days stay, allowed us to showcase to you that healthy meals can be substantial and above all, memorable. We would like to think that our products and services are “value for money”. Our transportations aim to help our guest to experience luxurious comfort during their journey (especially since the uncontrollable external factor such as the pot holes are existed in various points of the journey). Complementing the journey, we provide amenities such as complimentary wi-fi, reading material, various refreshment and mineral water. Our transportation/Taxi are from our neighbouring villages and are only allowed to drop off and not able to pick up guests on their way back so one reason to be slightly more expensive. It has been our wish to be able to maintenance programme in one go, alas that is impossible with our daily operation. Thus we settle in with a scheduled maintenance programme. It is unfortunate that your accommodation has not been “touched” with the programme yet. On the other hand, we would like to thank you for your alert on the wood decking and hand rails in Uma Bona – we would get it done in the very near future. Hopefully, if you find your way back to us, the changes at Uma Bona will be to your liking. All of us at the Estate look forward to welcoming you back to Banjar Begawan for another memorable experience.Kind regards,Paul

From being greeted at the entrance to waved off in a taxi the place is amazing. You are assigned your own personal assistant for your stay, who cannot do enough for you. Service is exceptional, the surroundings are beautiful. We’ve had an amazing 5 nights. Something to improve. The wood decking and hand rails around our private pool needed restaining (Uma Bona)Taxi drivers complained about the road in having potholes (not necessarily the hotels fault)We were supposed to be staying at Uma by Como but they took a block booking and moved us here, there are 2 restaurants and although the food is very nice for us it was limited and what we did like (the wagyu beef) it was expensive. Be prepared to eat healthy food for your entire stay. A taxi from the hotel to Ubud was 234000 rupees a taxi back to the hotel from Ubud was 150000 rupees this was a private one. Did I mention the staff were amazing. Thank you for your hospitality.

Rijasa Agung – Bali Ubud Luxury Hotel Resort Villa(Payangan)(Great Value!)

I traveled to Como in order to kick start a new life, mainly due to rehab after an injury.I got exactly what I wanted, good food, lots of treatments and som physical activity. During my stay I was on the Be Active program so it included hiking and biking as well as qigong and pilates. It should be noted that the hotel is in the middle of the jungle, so there are no shortage of animals and insects. It didn’t disturb me at all though. One should also be prepared for the difference in altitude between the rooms and the reception area, lots of steps to walk. However, being there to get exercise I only found it to be a benefit.

We came to como shambala on our honeymoon for 5 days and what a stay it was! Everything was fantastic and I have tough standards! The property was beautiful, everything you could imagine bali would look like. The meals were amazing. I have to admit I was a little apprehensive when I saw the food was health oriented but trust me when I say that will not be a problem. The food was excellent. You felt amazing after eating there. We didn’t leave the resort much, there really wasn’t reason to! We did go to a show out one night but otherwise we just took advantage of all of the amazing amenities the resort offered. It was so amazing I began looking up other como locations so I could relive this wonderful trip. We will be back! Don’t miss this amazing spot!

Dear Guy K,Warmest greetings from COOMO Shambhala Estate.First of all thank you so much for writing the review. Nothing makes us happier than to learn that you enjoyed your stay and sharing your kind comment to the world about our service and facilities. It is such a pleasure to read your review as it captures our aim in immersing all of our guests in a positive, holistic and healing experience through all aspects – design, facilities, staff, treatments, cuisine, accommodation, community, adventure and culture. We are very happy to hear that we could match your expectations. From your review, we believe you had the opportunity to explore our Kedara (meaning ‘Water Garden’ in Sanskrit) a.k.a. river pools. I personally also feel that Kedara (our water garden) is certainly a very special place combining the pristine air, fresh spring water and gorgeous vistas with naturally rich in mineral water that comes from our own natural source. It is so rejuvenating to spend the day swimming in the Spring Pools and lounging in the Bale there. On behalf of the entire team, we look forward to welcome you back home to the Estate for a more memorable experience.Kind regards,Paul

Just spent 1 week in Como Shambhala estate after a long stressful year! Its an amazing place in the middle of jungles with amazing views. Very quite, very solid and very professional.I would like to mention 3 things I liked a lot in this estate:1) Professional team which helps you on a personal basis to go through the program. I had a Cleansing program which was carefully planned and was good mix of Yoga, Pilates, Meditation, Massage and cleansing procedures. Even 1 hour lectures about healthy life! I especially liked one presented by Dave, Art of Living.2) Food is just so good and so healthy! And the choice is very big! Never thought that healthy food can be so tasty. 3) High class service! Starting from meeting in airport and through my stay whole team of estate led by mr. Santiago Sagaz was so nice, so positive and professional! Its probably the most important in such type of hotels to get a high class service from every person working in the estate! They helped in every moment I needed but kept my privacy so I could stay alone and relax. Warm thanks to all staff of Estate for a fantastic stay, Coming home full of energy and new ideas! Strongly recommend this hotel for at least 1-2weeks per year retreat!Ildar Ibragimov

Dear Rosie F,Warmest greetings from Begawan Village!First of all, thank you so much for your kind review. Coming from Senior Contributor such as yourself, makes it so much sweeter. As part of COMO Hotels and Resorts, we try to inspire our guests to travel and live differently by creating experiences worth re-living. Reading your review, we feel that we have managed just that for you! We are very happy to learn that COMO Shambhala Estate has been the right choice for your honeymoon. This has shown different facet of us – a wellness resort who is flexible – offering a variety of options to suit different moods and tastes, from a romantic getaway for two to a journey seeking real and lasting improvements to lifestyle while learning to relax more completely. Your compliment on the resort’s nature is much appreciated .The Estate comprises 8 hectares of landscaped woodland on an elevated promontory bordered on two sides by the Ayung River, the mother of Balinese rivers. Starting in the conception stage, we have strived to preserve this gift from nature to the retreat that the guest sees today. We hope you will enjoy your future time in our sister property (you have plenty options, the Maldives, Bhutan, Thailand, USA, Turks and Caicos, UK and even our closest sister property – Uma by COMO, Ubud) and that it will be just as memorable, if not more. Meanwhile, all of us at COMO Shambhala Estate look forward to welcoming you back home to Banjar Begawan.Kind regards,Paul

Second time in this resort, for me the best in Bali Pros:+Best area (wild landscapes everywhere) (things to do such a rafting, ubud village, bike…)+One of the best spa I’ve ever been+SuperGood and very very healthy food! all natural and made with smart sense+The trekking route from the hotel to the river, no words+Friendly staff+Very quiet, private and relaxing. Looks like a big boutique resort+Good pools, gardens and common areas+Balinese deco and awesome architecture, you can feel the Balinese soul in the walls+Best eco-lux resort in Bali.Cons:-They should check the complimentary activities, we book a quad tour with the hotel and was boring because of the guide (Bali is wonderful), disappointed because Bali offers a lot more-Far from the airport, around 2-2:30 hours if no traffic jam -Not easy to book exactly the room that you want-They should put less chemicals in the jacuzzi -Only during the night you must close all doors and windows, there are tons of mosquitoes around.-Depending of your room location you can find meters and meters of steps, but actually this wasn’t a negative point for usI can recommend the Wanakasa room, the shared pool that you have is just from another planet Hope to come back in the future…
