Interior designers will sometimes treat commercial spaces as impersonal, sterile and even boring.  Our goal at Allison Smith Design is to bring warmth and personality to areas that are often overlooked.  Check out the galleries below for a small sample of our Commercial Design Projects.

If you’d like to use these paints in a more traditional manner, I suggest a matte finish for the predominant color.  Then use satin or eggshell for kitchen, bathrooms, children’s rooms and trim.

This tasteful palette suits your style perfectly.  Shades of green create serenity, while a splash of white keeps it fresh.  Add touchable texture with nubby patterns, velours and quilted fabrics.

For a playful young girl’s room, this palette was just the ticket.  We used AS05SP as our predominant color for the walls and used AS07SP as inspiration to match throw pillows.  This palette is so much fun to play around with and looks amazing with crisp, white linens.  We also added a very limey green to keep it playful.  Don’t be afraid to be bold with your color choices, you can always mix and match between the seasonal palettes.

As a designer, I help each of my clients make choices that fit with their personalities, lifestyles, and the architecture of the house itself. Rather than imposing a particular style, fad or trend, I let them and their homes speak to me. Through this interactive process, each home becomes a unique sanctuary with all the elements of comfort.

A natural, earthy set of greens like this pair perfectly with rich, cherry hardwood.

In a previous post we showed you a behind the scenes look at this project. With two floors, a kitchen, fireplace, and lots of space for recreation, we had to come up with a plan to keep it consistent, while giving each space its own feel.  The name of the apartment complex attached to this rec center is Park 16.  We decided it would be fun to take that theme and run with it.  Green walls, natural brown trim, and carpet tiles that resemble elevation lines on a map all came together to create the perfect backdrop for our rustic yet sophisticated space.  For the fireplace we chose pebble tile for the bottom half, and this amazing cross-cut wooden square tile for the top half.  A mosaic backsplash in the kitchen compliments the sage green cabinets perfectly.

Property management companies, restaurants and even a tech shop in Manhattan, have come to us with commercial design challenges. Whether it’s a comfortable lobby, individual apartments, or your favorite neighborhood eatery, my goal with every project is to create enjoyable spaces that reflect the lifestyles of the locals.

Because our climates are so dramatically different, the best way to bring this style home to the Pacific Northwest is by introducing large white planters with brightly colored flowers that can survive our rainy season.  Fuchsia Azaleas are the perfect NW flower for replicating this look.  Throw in some white patio furniture with bold, geometric-print cushions or pillows and relax in your new oasis.

Design Inspiration: Palm Springs Thursday, 12 March 2015 11:07 Allison Smith 0 Comments

Palm Springs had a major development boom from the 1940s through the mid-1960s.  The style of this era is still reflected today in the architecture of homes, resorts, signage, and commercial buildings.   For lovers of Mid-Century Modern and Spanish revival, this place is a haven.  Bold color choices and retro furniture create an ambiance of leisure, perfect for vacationing.  Bring a little bit of this style home to create an oasis for yourself year round.

We had so much fun with this project: just before all of the furniture and accessories went in, the client came by to check it out and said, “Woah, that’s a lot of green.”  With a little trust, we were able to move forward and bring in our rustic elements.  Once it came together everyone agreed that the green was the perfect choice for this space.  Elegant, rustic, and a bit like a walk in the park.

This Portland homeowner wanted a fresh, updated look for her tired master bathroom.  A calm, soft palette, including our AS10W for the walls, creates contrast with the dark, rich wood of the double vanity.  The switch from built-ins to a free-standing set of cabinets creates a greater sense of space and sophistication where the cabinets look more like furniture, and less like kitchen cupboards.

Allison is a phenomenal designer and my husband and I couldn’t imagine having done our kitchen remodel without her and her amazing team! Doing a remodel can be very stressful and my husband and I had no idea where to start or who to hire to ensure we were paying a fair price and receiving the quality we expected. Hiring Allison was the best decision we could have made. Allison has trusted contractors and businesses she works with and a wealth of experience to convey a realistic and impeccable design that is feasible for your space and budget. Allison and her team also helped immensely with time management and scheduling through ongoing communication with other contractors and business so that things moved smoothly and on time. This would have been very difficult for my husband and I as we work full time. Allison was a pleasure to work with. I highly recommend Allison for any home remodel, you will not regret hiring Allison for your next project!

This new construction commercial project was full of potential.

A beautiful vacation in Palm Springs has inspired some new color combinations.  This arid landscape, sprinkled with lush, tropical vegetation and dry, rocky mountains that seem to shoot up from nowhere, provides the perfect backdrop for clean, crisp design with saturated colors and bold geometric patterns.  This style features black and white striped curtains, white pots, and yellow cushions on white patio furniture.

Amazing results. I’ve worked with Allison on several projects and referred her to many friends. What I really love is how she makes remodeling so much fun. All the stress of project managing that goes with remodeling and buying a new home is immediately reduced when Allison shows up. Her color choices and furniture selections are on point. She keeps the contractors on schedule and makes sure everything is executed at the highest level. I can’t wait to work with her on the next project.

We used this palette in a Decorate With What You Own project for a home in Portland.  This soft green, AS12W, blended perfectly with the homeowner’s style.  With muted tile, dark cherry wood accents, and black and dark brown accessories, our sage green was just the thing to breathe life into this home.

The biggest impact in this bathroom is created by the new tiled shower.  Deciding to ditch the bathtub left the space open for some beautiful pebble tile.  To let this gorgeous tile work shine through, the homeowner opted for an elegant frameless shower door. You can see the dramatic difference from those old-fashioned sliding doors on the left; what an improvement!
