Need to style your bedroom? Daniel Hopwood of the BBC’s Great British Interior Design Challenge shows us some easy fixes to boost a bijou bedroom.

Dan went on to graduate with a degree in Architecture, tutored in the Corbusian manner at the University of Westminster, and then joined the Prince of Wales Institute of Architecture to acquire a classical, architectural training. From there he worked in various architects’ offices, including the award-winning Hampshire County Architects. In 1993 he got his first break, an opportunity to find and design an apartment for an architectural critic, and took the chance to set up Studio Hopwood.

Through the jungle-inspired hallways and into the calm oasis that is this study. Perfect for our young bachelor in Clapham. Wonderful wallpaper from Timorous Beasties.

With years of valuable experience, the British Institute of Interior Design decided to appoint him as Director of Continuing Professional Development and then President. He is a guest tutor at the KLC School of Design and has worked as a trends consultant for Dulux. Dan regularly gives talks at trade shows such as Decorex and 100% Design and more light hearted versions  for public shows such as Grand Designs. He writes about design for magazines and newspapers including the Sunday Times and Evening Standard. A presenter on the series, “Britain’s Best Homes” for Channel 4 and more recently the judge on BBC2’s “The Great Interior Design Challenge” which is now on its fourth series.

Feeling brave? Take your favourite colour and dedicate a whole room to it, adding texture with different fabrics and finishes. 💓

He is  happiest, however,  on projects either in the Studio or on site and meeting with clients.

For a young American based in Bermondsey, wanting to celebrate his time in London with a cool cutting edge, I had some fun with this elaborate penthouse project. 🥂

Dan has been in the design industry for over 30 years. Aware that Interior Design is a career that requires both education and experience, he decided early on to experience both.

“The aim is to remain small so that I can be involved in every project, offering clients a highly creative, practical and ultimately personal service.”

Fresh from Yorkshire he started as an assistant to a furniture buyer at Harvey Nichols, London, thereby learning how to recognise quality and where to find it. As an admirer of craftsmanship, he spent a year studying stone and wood carving, gilding and polychrome work. Working for restorers, Dan gained knowledge of European antiques and how they were made, which he still uses today.

There is a certain refinement and yet rawness to this room by using overscaled brick-red velvet headboard, marbled papers and handblown pendants with hand painted floor boards. ⚡️

Much of the work at Studio Hopwood involves turning the tight spaces that we have in London into workable homes. Over time I have found that a modernist approach seems to be the best way to achieve this. ✏️

Living green . Add plants to be able to your liveable space . Add these people to every room, little or large, few or even many. Plants invariably is a low-cost means to accessorizing your own space and adding shade and texture. Not simply are plants beautiful although many can clean family air and balance humidness . They can absorb impurities and remove harmful gas from the air. Zero home should be with out these wonderful greens!

Paint smaller areas in softer, lighter hues which will make the room experience larger. The living place above is a wonderful sort of how to be able to maximize a small liveable space . A room of this specific size provides the tendency in order to seem cramped, nevertheless the big windows, light colored wall surfaces and ample using showcases not only reflect the particular natural light pouring throughout through the doors and the particular windows nevertheless the use associated with mirrors also provides optic illusion of space, producing the room seem greater than it actually is usually . Conversely, darker colors may make a room experience smaller. Even with the particular abundance of natural lighting and the strategic hanging on to of the mirrors, this kind of room in a deeper shade might have an additional boxed-in feel into it.

Wicker baskets. Straw-plaited baskets are an affordable and elegant method to put storage to any area . Baskets can be utilized to store and exhibit books, architectural and interior decoration magazines, toys, towels plus blankets to name a new few. Place a few smaller wicker baskets within the counter-tops in your kitchen to be able to beautifully display and retail outlet your fruit and fresh vegetables.

Whether or not you`ve just moved and looking for a speedy , little home pick-me-up, or perhaps perhaps something better, presently there are some well-known interior design tricks that designers make use of which you too can very easily do with minimal hard work and cost. Sometimes the particular smallest things make very best impact. It could get digging in a reflection , a painting, a lamp fixture or even a herb. You may want to make softer your walls, brighten the room, or exercise . warmness to your living place. Look into these clever design and style as well as observe how they can encourage you!

Add a dangling pot holder to the kitchen. Kitchens are designed to be warm in addition to inviting. We spend significantly of our time throughout them whether it get for preparing meals, providing meals or entertaining. Some sort of hanging pot rack pays to elegance. Kitchens are supposed to feel as even though they are in frequent use and a suspending pot rack certainly helps make one feel this approach . In addition to seeking so wonderful, (there a wide range of sizes and styles available) additional cupboard space under is currently freed up in order to store other items. Almost never has anyone complained involving having too much storage area.

Employ decorative mirrors to include immediate light to your livable space . As seen above, showcases doubles to make a new small space feel much larger . For larger rooms, or perhaps any room with a new more limited amount associated with natural light, mirrors positioned directly across in the house windows , will add instant light-weight . Decorative mirrors could also be used within lieu of art in order to fill empty wall area . Large or small, wall mirrors add light and sizing to your living area.

Work with area rugs to ease hardwood floors. Throw carpets give warmth and may add great texture, shade and personality to your own living space. Hardwood flooring are beautiful and quick to take care of but they be lacking the comfort that carpeted floors offer, particularly within the cooler months. Location rugs can also include fun and functionality to be able to your living area . Use various of varying patterns plus fabrics together to display your character. Or include several rugs of the particular identical pattern and textile , or different textures although the same color. The particular possibilities are endless. An individual can change your location rugs to reflect the particular seasons using warmer shades and fabrics for chillier months and lighter types for the warmer instances of the year. Presently there are many lovely organic cotton , washable area rugs which usually are suitable for those houses with children. There actually is no reason exactly why a house with young kids cannot end up being a fashionable one.

Color or wallpaper your bookcases. This instant pop associated with color will brighten in addition to re-energize any room! Is actually amazing how something thus simple as a coating of colorful paint may instantly energize and change your space. This pre-installed bookcase would be easy and ordinary minus the vivid blue interior. Probably the easiest and most inexpensive method to transform a boring area is always to apply a cover of paint somewhere unforeseen . Bookcases are an best place to start as you don`t need to color a large area. Some other fun places to include some sort of pop of color contain painting fireplace mantels, the particular insides of closets, hallways and ceilings.

Slip into anything a bit more comfortable!. Slip addresses frequently get a poor rap but they are usually truly wonderful things. That they can act as a method of changing your furniture`s look to reflect the particular seasons. These easily taken out coverings improve an advanced look without constantly being concerned about people dirtying or perhaps spilling on your pieces of furniture . Slip covers are perfect for rooms used often by children. Over a new white slip-covered couches provides the air of an informal , comfortable, easy yet superior elegance.

Employ what you already include to decorate. Most of us possess items in our ownership , probably packed up inside boxes somewhere and haven`t given them a next glance. Your house needs many accessories. Rather than running to be able to the store, take some sort of good look at whatever you already have. Trays, solid wood , acrylic, metal or sterling silver can be on top rated of luggage racks, green tea carts, trunks, bedside furniture and coffee tables regarding extra texture and aspect . Arrange candles on all of them , frames or pile publications on top of all of them . Plates can be installed to create wonderful wall membrane art. Art from kid`s books can be frame and hung in nurseries, children`s rooms or their very own bathrooms. You will become amazed at your expertise with what you previously have!

Change your workout. Mix way up patterns and textures. Mixture up old and innovative , expensive and cheap. There`s nothing wrong with positioning family heirlooms alongside your current modern couch. Great rooms decorators will tell an individual that one of the particular most important aspect to be able to decorating your property is that this reflects who you are usually , your personality and the style. The vintage Chippendale office that was your grandfather`s tells a story. This tells the story regarding your past. The contemporary couch you became adoringly obsessed with and merely had to purchase likewise tells a story, your existing story, and there will be no reason the offer and past can`t co-exist beautifully together. The identical could be said for fine art. You might not need to place a piece of art by Salvador Dali on a single wall next to some sort of Monet, but there`s zero reason why they cannot become in the same space together. With fabrics whether or not it be furniture, area rugs or pillows, varied colours and patterns would bring friendliness and texture into the being space.
